An office door that separates without shutting out the light

This North Carolina home office sits off the living room, and a single 6 Lite Interior Steel French Door from our Classic Grid collection is what separates the two. The matte black frame and clear tempered glass keep the office light-filled while giving it a defined edge: light passes through, you can see in, but the room reads as its own space.

Sean chose the handle without a lock and a magnetic closure, which holds the door shut quietly. The same door is available with or without a locking handle.

The office itself is the dark room in the photos — deep paneled walls, black built-ins, a plaid carpet — and the glass door is what keeps it from feeling shut away from the brighter living room with its fireplace and white sofa. So many people have commented on the door that one asked where it came from, Sean told us; his review is below.

A magnetic closure holds the door shut quietly and does not lock; the same door is available with or without a locking handle.

Single or double French door for a home office?

A single leaf like this one is made from 24 to 54 inches wide; our 8 Lite double doors are made to order from 36 to 108 inches wide (listed sizes start at 48), as in the Ohio home office.

Do French doors block sound for a home office?

They give you light and a visible boundary, which is what this project needed; a single-pane glass door separates rooms, it does not soundproof them.
