Installation Guide for Top Mount Barn Doors

  1. Prepare: Before you start, gather all the tools and materials you'll need for installing your barn doors. This will make the process smooth and efficient. You'll need a barn door hardware kit, which typically includes a track, rollers, stoppers, lag bolts, and wood screws. Additionally, have a cordless drill, driver bits, a miter saw, a step ladder, and a tape measure on hand. For precision, grab a pencil, wood glue, wood filler, clamps, and a combination square. Using a laser level and a stud finder will simplify finding studs and ensure accurate track and hardware placement.
  2. Measure: Measuring for double barn doors is straightforward. Begin by assessing the available wall space on both sides of the doorway to ensure the doors can slide open fully. Measure the width and length of your doorway, including any trim, and add 2-4 inches to the width for proper coverage. Factor in a 1/2 inch of clearance above the floor, allowing the door to hang smoothly on the metal track with about a 1/2-inch gap from the floor. Ensure the door is wide enough to completely cover the entryway, providing an inch or two of overhang on both sides and about one inch at the top. These simple steps guarantee your double barn doors fit perfectly and operate seamlessly.
  3. Attach the Track: First, find the wall studs using a stud finder and mark them where you'll install the track for added stability. Then, measure the width of the doors and add at least two inches on each side to cut the track to the right length. Next, position the track above the door opening at the desired height using a level, mark the screw holes, and attach the track to the wall or mounting board with wood screws or wall anchors. Before hanging the doors, insert the rollers onto the top edge of each door according to the hardware kit's instructions, ensuring they move smoothly on the track.
  4. Hang the Door: To hang your barn doors, carefully lift them and place the rollers onto the track. Open and close the door/s several times to test its operation. Adjust the rollers to ensure smooth sliding along the track. Secure the door by installing stops at both ends of the track to prevent the doors from sliding off by sliding them onto the track and tightening the set screws.
  5. Final Touch: Complete the installation by attaching handles and any additional hardware, such as locks or decorative elements if desired.

Bullet Hinge Doors. By following these simple steps, you can successfully install bullet hinge doors in your space. Ensure to double-check measurements and alignment throughout the process to achieve a professional and secure installation.

Installation Guide for Bullet Hinge Doors

  1. Organize yourself: Before you start, gather all the tools and materials you'll need for installing your bullet hinge doors. This will make the process smooth and efficient. Equipment needed includes a screwdriver or drill, level, shims, tape measure, hammer or nail gun, screws, door hardware (such as a doorknob and latch), and safety glasses. For precision, grab a pencil, a laser level, and a stud finder will simplify finding studs and ensure accurate door placement.
  2. Remove Old Door: Begin by removing the hinge pins using a screwdriver and hammer, then carefully lift the door out of the door frame. Next, remove the hinge plates and strike plate from the door frame. Loosen the trim around the door frame using a stiff putty knife. To remove the trim without damaging the wall, use a pry bar and block of wood, taking your time to avoid causing any damage. The head and inside jambs are usually nailed together, making it easier to remove them from the opening simultaneously. Pry the side jambs away from the studs and then pry down the head jamb. If you plan to paint, repair, or alter the wall, now is the ideal time to do so.
  3. Measure and Prepare Doorway: Before installing the prehung door, ensure any changes to the wall or door frame are completed to avoid damaging the wall. Begin by measuring the height and width of the door frame opening to ensure accurate dimensions, and double-checking the measurements for accuracy. Next, prepare the doorway by clearing any debris and ensuring it is level and plumb. If necessary, add shims to achieve proper alignment. These steps guarantee a proper fit and smooth installation of the door without any issues.
  4. Install New Door: The pre-hung door and frame will arrive together, ready for installation. You'll also receive the bolts needed for the job. The door frame has holes for these bolts. Place the frame in the door opening, making sure the door swings in the right direction. While holding the door to prevent it from falling, gradually screw in the bolts provided, one by one, on each side. Take your time and check that everything lines up as you go. Once all bolts are in place, make sure the door is securely attached. Test by opening and closing it to ensure it works smoothly.
  5. Final Touch: Complete the installation by attaching handles and any additional hardware, such as locks or decorative elements if desired.
